| September 2011 The summer of 2011 was one where we baked and sizzled and then got drenched with heavy rain, but none of that could spoil several successful summertime events for our organization. The picnic which was held jointly with New Covenant Fellowship Church was attended by about 100. Thank you to the people who brought the grills and to those who cooked the food. We all enjoyed the inventive name tags that provided a laugh, a smile and conversation. The feeling seemed to be .. Let’s do this again! National Night Out in August drew brave folks under threatening skies that thankfully held off until the evening was over. A big thank you also goes to Corrine Eickstaedt for being a great hostess for National Night Out. By the way, did you see our picnic mentioned in the Hanover Township Happenings publication? From the Elgin Police Department What’s Going on in Your Neighborhood? CRIMEREPORTS. COM is a unique tool to use to check on the crime that is going on in your neighborhood. After you get to this website, type in the address you want to know about. You can zoom in and out of a radius you are requesting. You can also choose how many days back you want to know about (3 days ago or all the way back to August 2010). Then click on “Crimes” and you can choose what type of crimes you want to see (or click “show all” at the bottom) and you can also click on “show sex offenders” as well. This is updated every 24 hours!!! Also, you can become a member and join at the upper right hand corner. You can then click “ create an alert”, and sign up a specific area. Then, they will send you the crimes that have happened in your neighborhood to your email account. You can choose to have the alerts emailed to you daily, weekly or monthly. Questions , call Community Relations at 847 289 2530 Signs: The board is working on some signs that will be placed in different areas of the neighborhood on the day of the General Meetings to alert residents of the Neighborhood Meetings. It seems there are many who don’t know that we have a Neighborhood Association. Hopefully, it will make people aware of the organization and draw in a few more people. Any Ideas? There will be a suggestion box at the next meeting for you to drop comments and ideas into about anything that concerns the neighborhood or the meetings. The general consensus of opinions at the board meeting was that this has been a successful past year and that we are starting to see our impact on the neighborhood and the city. We are moving forward with plans and projects. We would love to include more neighbors while we are moving ahead. |
