| Blackhawk Residents Association March 2010 The next General Meeting of the Blackhawk Residents Association is Tuesday, March 30th at 7 PM. at the church. We tried to get NICOR to come to answer some general questions about meters, workers in the neighborhood, and safety issues in our homes, but they referred our request to their legal department and legal has not gotten back to me as of this writing date. We will focus instead on updating information, planning ahead and growing the organization. It was felt that our Potluck Dinner was a big success. Good Food, Good Friends, and not too terrible weather, it doesn’t get much better than that. The board suggested that this event should continue. A big Thank You goes to John Ziegler and Joe Smolecki for meeting with Marilyn Ziegler and auditing the organization’s financial records. That task is in the by-laws and needs to be done annually. The Courier News has reported more than several police contacts in the neighborhood in the last 2 months. Be aware of anything that seems unusual to you and call the police to check it out. Don’t admit strangers into your home without a thorough inspection of their IDs. If something raises your suspicions, you’re right to call the police about it. Call 911 for an emergency or 847 289-2700 for non Emergencies. The Blackhawk Living History video taping project is underway. Several people have gone to Elgin Academy and have been video taped recounting their memories of their earliest times living in the neighborhood. You can either go alone or as a small group and sit and chat about your memories. One person’s memories will spark something in your memory and a conversation will begin. We also have prepared questions you may wish too look over before beginning. The Academy students do the video taping and will also do the editing. However, the school year is coming to a close and we would like to have this completed if possible. Actually, it was rather interesting to do. We have had some of these discussions at some of the board meetings and I was surprised at what I didn’t know and I lived right here. Gather some friends and neighbors and plan to do this. It’s easy to find. Parking is easy. It’ s in the daytime. Someone will go with you. Contact Joan Anderson or Claire Papiewski. I know there are many good stories to be shared. Health Fair – Hanover Township has hired a new person so that should help things move along. At the last meeting people were interested in ways they could help the Montes Family who had a gas explosion and lost their home. At the general meeting there will be a place for a monitory donation. Right now the family does not have a permanent home and can not use donations of goods. That time will come later on as you heard them say. If it is your choice, prepare to donate at the next general meeting. Picnic Date and Picnic Plans – Oh yes, It must mean warm weather is coming. The Date is being firmed up with a possible location with the Church again. Everything should be determined by the May general meeting. Dana was checking about the Elgin Beautification Project. Last year we helped the church plant their “Square”. Remember if you haven’t updated your dues, you can do that at the next meeting on Tues. March 30th. See YOU at the General Meeting |
