Tips for the PC User:
Every week or 2, click on Start / Windows Update. This
will update your computer with the most recent Microsoft
Windows software, so your PC is protected from
malicious hackers.
When you receive an error with any software, try writing
down the exact error and typing the full text into Google.
You may find a resolution. If you are using Microsoft
Software, try searching at support.miscrosoft.com
Tips for the PC Technician:
Every PC has a version of FTP on it. Open a Dos
window and type FTP. View the help with the Help
command. Connect to a FTP site with "Open
ftpaddress", i.e. "OPEN FTP.WEBSITE.COM" or
"OPEN 12.345.678.90". Then use the GET or
PUT command (also MGET/MPUT) to retrieve or
save files on the FTP site. This can be used for
updating web pages or sending large files to other
companies.
Use multiple levels of help to debug problems -
help within the product, help on the install disk or
directory (readme.txt), internet help using a
search on Google and a search at the product
site. But don't forget to ask friends and others
you know in the industry. Also look for a user
support group (Yahoo group) or ask the vendor
about a user listserve to find other companies that
use the same software.
